The Furniture is HERE!

After 17 LONG weeks of anticipation, our baby furniture finally arrived! On Wednesday afternoon, Brian and I headed down to South Austin to the warehouse to pick up the furniture. After a long, slow drive in some crazy winds - we made it home, got the furniture upstairs in the baby room and even got the crib all put together!

Now, it is time to get the rest of the room put together... I will try and post some other baby room updates later this weekend.

On another note - I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas Day! Ours was wonderful - spent the day watching movies, opening presents, eating yummy food and enjoying time together on our last Christmas without kids!

Belly & Baby Updates

Today, I am 32 weeks and 3 days pregnant.

Only 53 more days to go.

YIKES!

According to BabyCenter – our little guy weighs in around 3.75 pounds right now and is about 16.7 inches long. The scary part is that during the next 7 weeks, he will gain a third to half of his birth weight! Meaning – he could basically double in size!

For those of you who do not know, Brian and I were both very LARGE babies. Brian weighed in at 9 pounds, 10 ounces and was 22 inches long. I was 9 pounds, 9 ounces and 21 inches long. I am scared to think of how big our little guy is going to be!

And speaking of getting big… it seems like every day I wake up my belly is a little bit bigger. It is getting harder and harder to do normal activities (bending over, sitting on the floor, carrying things around, getting out of the car, etc). Brian keeps looking at my belly in awe and wondering how I could possibly get any bigger! I guess we will find out…

For your enjoyment, below are the latest two belly shots:

28 weeks, 4 days

31 weeks, 2 days

In some other news – our baby furniture has FINALLY arrived! It was supposed to take 12-16 weeks to get here and it ended up taking 17 weeks – I am just glad it is here. Brian and I will be heading down on Wednesday afternoon to pick it up. Once we get it assembled, I will post a picture for you all to see!

Once we get the crib and dresser in the baby’s room – I am hoping it will actually start to feel like a nursery! Right now, there is so much baby stuff all over the room and crammed in the closet. I am SO excited to be able to organize it all and get everything in its proper place! I also have a lot of fun baby room projects to work on over the holidays – so be on the lookout for some fun room updates!

LONG overdue update

I started writing this post almost two weeks ago and just never found the time to finish it – so I guess I might as well just start over!

I cannot believe it is already December and that 2009 is quickly coming to an end. The past few weeks have been very busy for us and have flown by. Since I last updated, we have flown out to California for our first baby shower, had our last Thanksgiving without baby, celebrated “Colker Christmas” and even found some time in between to finish our Christmas shopping!

To start from the beginning…

Back on Friday, November 13 – Brian, myself and my sister made the flight home to California for our first baby shower. After enjoying a delicious burger, fries and milkshake at In’n’Out, we got to my Dad’s house late that night to discover that my dad had flown out my Aunt from Ohio as a surprise for the shower – and what a great surprise it was! The last time we saw my Aunt was when Brian and I got married and it was so good to be able to spend time with her and catch up on life.

Saturday morning was spent preparing for the shower and watching the University of Texas game (go Longhorns!). The shower kicked off around 1pm and I am not actually sure how long it lasted... After some yummy food, the girls spent our time catching up, playing games and opening gifts – while the boys hung out watching football, playing pool, drinking beer/scotch and smoking cigars!

Below are just a few pictures from the day…

After opening all the presents that everyone brought for Baby McDermott – all I can say is how thankful I am for our family and friends and how LOVED our little one already is! Here is a shot of all the goodies that we brought home:

THANK YOU KRISTINE & SHARON FOR HOSTING SUCH A WONDERFUL SHOWER AND THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR COMING!

After recovering from a great weekend, we turned our focus to preparing for the holidays. We enjoyed a lovely Turkey Day, spent eating a TON of food and watching a bunch of Football – including the Texas game (and boy – was that a good game)!

While I was doing some cooking in the kitchen that day, Brian found it funny that I was “barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen” – thus, he had to take the following picture:

I have more updates to share on the baby and my belly – but since this post is getting ridiculously long, I will save that for another post later this week!

Quick Post

Just a quick post to share with you all a cute photo Brian took with his phone of me while we were waiting for the doctor at our last appointment:

This weekend Brian, my sister and I will be traveling to California for our very first baby shower - we are SO excited to celebrate Baby McDermott with all our friends and family and hope to see you there!

(Brian is also VERY excited to get some In-n-Out burger... and I must admit - I am too!)

100 days

As of today, Brian and I have exactly 100 days left until little Baby McDermott is supposed to make his arrival on February 12, 2010.

Only 100 days to go...
Only 14 weeks and 2 days to go...

Time is just flying by! I cannot believe that I am quickly approaching my third trimester and that in just about 3 short months - Brian and I will be parents! Thinking of how much time we actually have left is causing me to freak out a little about all the stuff I have left to do...

I still need to finish decorating the baby room, research day care options, find a pediatrician, get the house baby-proof, put together the baby furniture, and read all the books I have on taking care of babies!! Not to mention, all the normal life activities that are coming up - Thanksgiving, Christmas holidays, New Years and my 30th birthday! Yikes!

On another note, we had our latest doctor appointment this morning. Baby McDermott is doing great. His heart beat is strong and he is getting bigger by the day!

Speaking of getting bigger - here is the latest belly shot:

Halloween!

Just a little post to share with you all the costumes Brian and I wore for Halloween this year. Finding a costume was a little harder this year due to my growing belly - but I think we did alright! Brian's costume was definitely better than mine, considering mine only made sense if I was standing next to Brian...

Baby Room Update

I did it - I painted the baby room! I can now cross one more thing off my list of things left to do in the room...

I always forget how much work it is to paint until I actually start the process. After taking basically a whole day to tape and get the room ready - I was finally able to put some paint on the walls. After one coat of primer and two coats of orange paint - the room was done.

In the end, I am really happy with the color. It is a little "oranger" than I had originally wanted, but I think it is a really nice color. It is a very cheerful and happy color, not girly at all and not too overwhelming. I especially think that once all the dark wood furniture and the wall art is up - it will look amazing.

Before

and after...

At this point in time, we are still using the room as an extra guest room - hence the bed and sewing table that are still in the room. The other furniture (the white bookcases, high chair & kid rocking chair) are staying in the room and once the crib & dresser arrive, we can finally set up the room as I have it pictured in my head! I am so excited for that day!

23 weeks!

It is hard to believe that I am now in my 23rd week of pregnancy - with only 17 weeks to go (or 119 days to be specific)!

Time is just flying by. In 5 more short weeks, I will officially be in my third trimester and in four more weeks, I will be having my first baby shower! Before I know it, this baby will be here!

I am little late again in taking my belly shot - but here it is:

23 weeks

Now for an update on the baby...

According to my fun pregnancy tracker, our little one is more than 11 inches long and he weighs over a pound now! At this stage he is gaining about six ounces each week and over the next few weeks he should basically double in size. (Which makes me wonder if my belly will also double in size!)

I am still feeling pretty good, although it is starting to get a little uncomfortable when I bend over or move a certain way. The little kid has been moving and kicking a lot lately and pretty soon I think Brian may actually be able to feel it. I can't wait to see his reaction when he actually gets to feel his little boy kick!

On another topic, tonight I am babysitting my friends 10 month old little boy while her and hubby go to dinner for her birthday. I figured it would give me some good practice, because pretty soon I will have my own little one to look after. Wish me luck!

Decorating, Shopping & Registering

First off, I want to apologize for the recent lack in blog postings – it is crazy how fast the past two weeks have gone! Brian and I have been keeping busy with work, school, football and preparing for the little guys arrival.

With less than four months to go until the big day – I have kicked the baby room decorating into high gear! Since we are having a boy, we have decided that the colors of the room will be green, brown, orange and white. The plan for the walls was to do a light orange as the color – but after FIVE different samples of paint, we decided light orange was just not working. We finally agreed on a color that is more of a mid-orange shade, which is actually called “Orange Cream.”

My plan is to paint the room in a few weekends, and I will be sure to post pictures once I am done! I may let Brian help paint a little, but if you know him like I do, you will know that he is not that good with the little details (think edges) and that he is best left to paint only the large middle areas of the walls! (and for all your worriers out there – I did ask my doctor and I am allowed to paint as long as the room is well ventilated!)

Once we got the paint color figured out – it was time to start shopping! I don’t know about you, but I LOVE to shop online. I am always finding some great stuff at some amazing prices. Below are pictures of just a few of the things I have picked up in the last few weeks:

how precious is this wall art?

I fell in love with these bookends for the book shelf

what sold me on this crib set is the dust ruffle - it was just what i was looking for!

And speaking of shopping… Brian and I finished our registries last week! (If you want to check them out, we are registered at Target & Babies R Us)

Since our first baby shower is coming up in about a month, I wanted to get the registry done as soon as possible. As Brian is not too much of a shopper, I decided to start both registries online and add all the basics to the registry so that when we went to the actual stores, we would not be there forever. I think my plan worked, because both trips were very successful and we managed to get in and out in about an hour. The only problem is that there is SO much cute baby stuff and it was hard not to scan everything in the store!

Be sure to check back later this week for the latest belly shot and some updates on our little boy!

A little late

I know I am a little late at taking my 20 week belly shot - but here it is:

20 weeks, 4 days

And just for fun - I put together a progression of my last four belly shots to see how much the belly has really grown! Although I do not feel that MUCH bigger and I have only gained about 10 pounds - you can definitely see a difference!
